Headmistress/Principal
Dr. Monique Jones-Floyd is one of the founders of Empowered Christian Academy (ECA). Dr. Floyd is a graduate of The Florida State University with a B.S. degree in Psychology. In continuing her path of excellence, Dr. Floyd graduated from Nova Southeastern University’s School Psychology program with a Master’s degree and then with a Specialist degree in School Psychology. At the age of 33, Dr. Floyd graduated with a Doctor of Education degree in Organizational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University.
Dr. Floyd is the founder of I Know I Can Academy, a tutoring company that previously contracted with the Florida Department of Education and Polk County Schools to provide tutoring services to thousands of students at various sites. The program was ranked as “Excellent” which was the highest designation by FLDOE during the time of services and the program only stopped due to the “No Child Left Behind Act” not being re-authorized. To this day, Dr. Floyd is often contacted by parents and/or guardians with news of graduations, academic achievements and/or college entrance for former students. Dr. Floyd has a proven track record of assisting students in reaching their highest potential.
Dr. Monique Jones-Floyd worked as a classroom teacher for three years for Polk County Public Schools for her first job. She also interned with Polk County Public Schools as a school psychologist during the 2007-2008 school year. In 2018, after several years of being a stay-at home wife to Dr. Marcus and stay-at home mom to Milania (MiMi), Dr. Floyd returned to Polk County Public Schools as a Regional School Psychologist and member of the school district’s 504 Team. In 2020, when the global pandemic hit the world, Dr. Floyd became a stay-at-home wife and mom again. As the conditions of the pandemic improved throughout the world, Dr. Floyd welcomed the opportunity to continue to positively impact the lives of students by being a founder of Empowered Christian Academy. Dr. Floyd is Excited, Grateful, and Encouraged by the limitless possibilities of educating our next generation and many more generations to come as “Champions for Christ!”

Dr. Monique Jones-Floyd also volunteers her time within the community. She is a member of Burkett Chapple Church, where her husband, Dr. Marcus D. Floyd is the Pastor. Dr. Floyd is the daughter of Dr. Sheila Jones and Archie Jones. Dr. Floyd credits her mom, Dr. Sheila Jones (a retired School Psychologist for Polk County Schools) and her late grandmother, Mrs. Genette Daniels (a former Elementary School Teacher in the State of Florida for 52 years) with instilling in her a strong desire to excel, the fortitude to help to educate children to be their best and the wish to treat others as though she would like to be treated.
Dr. Monique Floyd is a faithful member of Burkett Chapple Church and a Sunday School teacher for the East Florida District Primitive Baptist Association’s Church School Convention. She also is a Board Member of Girls Inc. of Lakeland. Drs. Monique and Marcus Floyd are yearly contributors along with Dr. Sheila Jones of a scholarship to a deserving high-school graduate in honor of Dr. Monique’s grandmother, Mrs. Genette Daniels. Dr. Monique Jones-Floyd has been a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. for over 21 years. Drs. Monique and Marcus have been married for over 20 years and are the proud parents of Milania (MiMi). Dr. Floyd’s Motto is: Be a leader who leads by example.

Educational Journey:
Dr. Sheila Daniels Jones earned her Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Psychology and her Master of Science (M.S.) degree in School Psychology from Florida A &M University. She later continued her educational path at Nova Southeastern University (NSU), where she earned her Educational Specialist (Ed.S) degree in Educational Leadership and her Doctorate Degree (Ed.D) in Organizational Leadership. Her proudest educational moment occurred when she graced the stage at NSU to receive her doctorate degree alongside her one and only daughter, the beautiful and smart Dr. Monique Jones Floyd.
Christian Journey:
Dr. Jones is a born again believer who gives all of the credit for her life and success to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She thanks Him for the things He has done and her favorite saying is: “To God Be the Glory!” She also gives credit to her late parents, Mr. and Mrs. Shedrick Daniels for raising her in a loving, Christian home and for making sure that she had a relationship with God, the Father and His son, Jesus Christ. Dr. Jones’ parents taught her the importance of putting God first, believing in self, treating others right and working hard. That foundation is the core of who she is today. Dr. Jones is a faithful member of Burkett Chapple, where she serves in several capacities under the leadership of her pastor and son-in-law, the Elder Dr. Marcus D. Floyd. She believes and stands true to being faithful in her time, talent and treasure.
Love of Learning:
Dr. Jones contributes her love of learning and commitment to being her personal best to her parents and her mentor; her beloved mother, the late Mrs. Genette Daniels. Mrs. Daniels was a renowned and beloved educator whose teaching career included 52 years of exemplary and dedicated service. As a result of God’s Grace and Mercy and parental values such as self love, self respect, integrity, honesty, love for others and treating others right, Dr. Jones was blessed to enjoy a rewarding career as a Polk County school psychologist for 38 years (retired in 2021). Although retired, Dr. Jones is still certified by the State of Florida as a school psychologist. In February 2023, she met all criteria for recertification as a Nationally Certified School Psychologist (Retired) from the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP).Dr. Jones was also blessed to teach several years during the 90’s as an adjunct instructor for Bethune Cookman College, now Bethune Cookman University.
Personal Life:
Blessed to be the Mother to the greatest daughter, who is my one and only, my best friend and my confidant; the beautiful, smart and talented Dr. Monique Jones Floyd. Blessed to be the Grandmother (GG) to the greatest grand daughter, who is my one and only; the beautiful, smart and talented Princess Milania (MiMi) Floyd.
